How It All Began

God began preparing James and Corie Himstedt for the vision of Strong Rock while they were still high school students. While working at camp during high school and college years, God showed them the unique opportunity a camp setting offers kids to truly see God at work.  They married in 1996 and went  to work full-time at a camp in Alabama.

While they were working in Alabama, Corie's parents, Larry and Norma Adams, presented them with the opportunity to fulfill their vision of Strong Rock. The property in Cleveland, GA was purchased in 1999, and construction began in the spring of 2002.  The excitement of seeing the facility take shape over the next few years was second only to that of creating the actual camp program. The first session of campers were welcomed in June 2005.

The Himstedt and Adams families consider God's calling to open Strong Rock Camp a privilege. They are grateful every day for the opportunity to use a camp setting to show kids unconditional love, and that God has a purpose for their lives.
