Owners, Directors and Leadership
Strong Rock Camp is family owned and operated through a partnership of the Adams, Himstedt and Redding families. What began as a dream, life-calling and leap of faith for the Adams and Himstedt families has blossomed into a remarkable camp experience, with the Redding family rounding out the team. Solid leadership and experience drive Strong Rock's mission. Learn more about our families and a few other key leaders below. The Himstedt Family
James, Corie, Amelia, Shannon, Avery and Elizabeth
James Himstedt, affectionately known as Rambo at camp, serves as Camp Owner / Director. James devotes his time to developing solid programming, inspirational summer themes and hiring and training the best possible role models for our campers. He spends much of the "off-season" on the road, visiting current camp families and meeting new prospects as we seek out more and more campers to join us each summer. With a degree in Outdoor Recreation from Baylor University, James is in his element running camp. He enjoys spending his down time cycling, leading mission trips, hunting, and most importantly, hanging out with his wife and four children.Corie Himstedt, is James' wife, and mother to their four children. Raising their kids is her main focus in life at this point, a job she loves. Her degree in Animal Science from Berry College gets put to use daily at the camp stables, where she manages the herd and gives riding lessons during camp's off-season. Corie also uses her day-to-day life experiences with raising her own children to pour guidance and direction into Strong Rock's staff during training. As a very intentional parent, the wisdom Corie has gained over the past several years is priceless as summer staff are prepared for their role as "surrogate" parents to campers. As a mother, Corie strives to be available to all of our camp moms when they have questions or hesitations about sending their child off to camp. In her free time she will likely be at the barn.
The Redding Family
Daniel, Kristi, Carver and Carson
Daniel Redding, known as Bacon at camp also serves as an Owner/Director specializing in the day to day operations of camp. Daniel brings almost 20 years of camp experience to Strong Rock. His degree in Business Administration has come in handy while overseeing all things business related for Strong Rock. Daniel's passion for children and heart for service provide the motivation for continual improvement at Strong Rock. His attention to detail and love for those "behind the scenes" tasks have complimented our partnership very well. He also serves as our Retreat Liason for all of our off-season rental groups. In his spare time, Daniel loves spending time with his wife Kristi and two boys, Carver and Carson. He also enjoys tennis, golf, and fly fishing.Rebecca Avra
Office Manager
If you call the camp office, there is
a 99% chance you will talk to Rebecca. She joined our staff in 2007 and has been a wonderful addition to our administration. Rebecca keeps all of our paperwork and forms in order, manages camp-to-parent communications, and helps ensure that we have the necessary information to provide outstanding service to each child. Rebecca's experience as a camper and staffer at other camps has proven invaluable as she fields parent calls throughout the summer. Away from camp, Rebecca loves serving on missions teams, cheering for Georgia Tech, and hanging out with her dog, Lily Belle. The Adams Family
Larry and "Mama" Norma
Larry and Norma Adams, parents of Corie, played a major role in helping make the dream of Strong Rock a reality. Their generosity and willingness to follow God's leadership allowed James and Corie to pursue this venture. They live in McDonough, about two hours south of camp, but you will often find them at camp. Larry makes his way up to camp to lend a helpful hand with anything that we need as often as he can. His servant's heart and humble leadership sets a positive tone for all those he comes in contact with. "Mama" Norma spends her entire summer at camp helping out with anything we need. Whether sorting the mail, teaching archery, running errands or helping care for a sick child, Norma's passion for camp and love for Strong Rock is evident in everything she does. She also LOVES to spoil our staff with care packages and encouraging notes to let them know just how much they are appreciated.
Rick Cornman
Maintenance Director
Rick Cornman, aka Eastwood, is a vital member of the Strong Rock family. With over 250 acres, 20 buildings, several miles of roads, trails, pipes and wires to take care of, Rick stays extremely busy. His hard work has resulted in one of the nicest looking camps you will ever visit. Aside from maintaining our grounds, facilities and water system, Rick also helps provide an extra level of security for our campers and staff through his keen ability to notice anything out of the ordinary at camp. Outside of camp, Rick enjoys spending time with his wife and family, playing golf, mountain biking and hanging out with friends.
