I’m ready to high five whoever ordered today’s weather! It was barely 80, there was a nice breeze, and clouds came and went. It was perfect for a full day of classes, which are really underway now that it’s the fourth day. Everything I went to, from climbing, to horseback riding, to drama, was going well and everyone is learning so much!
Every evening the entire camp plays a game after dinner. One of the best parts of Strong Rock’s program is that the staff play alongside the kids for every single one of them. I’ve been a part of programs or camps in the past where staff mostly monitor kids playing, often chatting with each other on the sidelines, but don’t jump in themselves. It’s a great part of the fun for everyone of every age to play together nightly.
This evening’s game is a hit with everyone. “Netrunner,” like all Strong Rock evening games, was developed here. Tribe members construct predetermined “puzzles” from balls their teammates continuously bring to them at each end of the field, hard won from the other tribe by chasing them and pulling the tribal bandana “tail” each of them have tucked into their waistband. It’s so much fun!
Evening games are another element of the program that are purposeful and intentional. Stride puts a great deal of thought into each game, how to make it safe, fun, and unique to Strong Rock. Some games, like Netrunner or Multimate Frisbee are played on a field with the entire camp, others are played all over the main part of camp where the fields and buildings are located. There’s sure to always be someone or many someones in game themed attire, whether dressed like pirates, Star Wars figures, nerds, animals, or gladiators.
I wish parents could be part of the evening game experience at camp. It’s truly a blast! Be sure to ask your camper what their favorite evening game was while they were here!
