Over the past 22 years of Strong Rock Camp’s existence, we’ve seen incredible things! We know a two-week camp session is very impactful in the life of a camper. It takes time to build friendships and a comfort level with counselors. You can read more about why coming to camp for two weeks is so beneficial in the blog post below titled, “Two Weeks Seems Like A Long Time To Be Away From Home!” That said, we are also parents ourselves, and we understand first-hand that sometimes our younger kids aren’t ready for a two-week experience. Sometimes we’re the ones who aren’t ready!
This summer we will run four one-week mini camps for rising first through fourth graders. These will be introductory sessions, with some of our most popular skill classes pre-selected for campers. They will have their own cabins and own skill classes, yet will choose tribes like two-week campers, pick their free skill (last skill class of the day) each day like two-week campers, and play all evening games with their tribes.
The skill classes these campers will participate in will be archery, canoeing, climbing, outdoor living skills, and arts and crafts for girls, and fishing for boys. These classes have continued to be some of the most popular ones with two-week campers and will give the mini campers a taste-test of what makes skill classes awesome! Daily free skill choices generally include swimming, indoor lodge games, blobbing, ziplining, horse barn (including pony rides), petting zoo, outdoor time at the lodge (ga ga ball, four square, or rocking chair sitting- which is usually bracelet making and chat time with counselors!), and a host of other terrific choices that change daily.
These mini camps will run during Session Two and Session Three of the regular two-week camps. Campers in A sessions will check in with two-week campers and go home on Friday, as two-week campers are headed into weekend camp activities, and B session campers will check in while two-week campers are in our church service and will participate in closing day festivities on Friday, including the closing ceremony and picnic.
Dates for 2027 Mini Camps:
2A: June 20-25
2B: June 27-July 2
3A: July 4-9
3B: July 11-16
At camp we LOVE having rising 1st through 4th graders at two-week sessions. We’re very excited about giving our youngest campers this opportunity as well. Whether for one week or two, we can’t wait to hang out with Strong Rock camper this summer!
